Back by popular demand - we've got a FreshCatch favorite - black cod available this week!

This weeks' "Catch of the Week" will be beautiful Black Cod from one of our partner day boats in Morro Bay

 In addition we have fresh Cooked Rock Crab Claws from Santa Cruz for our "Seasonal Selection!"

Our partner boat will be heading out of Morro Bay today to catch beautiful Black Cod (also known as sablefish) which we will be offering filleted to our members for delivery on Wednesday! 

Black Cod is a special treat - arguably one of our favorite fish to eat here at FreshCatch, and our partners at Seafood Watch consider it a Best Choice!

 Often called "butterfish" at the market to describe its unique and sumptuous flavor. We love it for its high omega 3 oil content which gives it a velvety texture, and delicate buttery taste that is unlike any other fish. Black Cod lends itself well to various cooking techniques and flavors but our favorite is still the classic Japanese preparation made famous at Nobu- miso marinated Black Cod (don't worry - we'll be including this in our recipes this week!) 

Single Orders of Black Cod will include between 1 and 1.25 lbs of skin on fillets and four recipes
*fillets will have some small pin bones in them

New Seasonal Selections! 

Now that we have built a stronger relationship with our fishermen and women we are happy to announce that we will be offering a seasonal selection of seafood which will be offered consistently each Wednesday in addition to our rotating catch. 

This month we have our rock crab boat in Santa Cruz going out twice a week. This allows us to always pick up our catch on a Monday or Tuesday to be delivered Wednesday, guaranteeing a fresh selection every week for our members!

Cooked Rock Crab Claws with Arms

Fresh Rock Crabs from Santa Cruz are a Seasonal Selection available to members each week! Captain Jason goes out twice a week to catch them and hand picks out the best and biggest of the bunch for us to cook up for our members early Wednesday morning. Rock crabs are a delicious and sustainable local alternative to the infamous Dungeness crab. Many restaurants like to use them as a substitute for Dungeness, but here at FreshCatch we like to think of them a little bit more like a Western cousin of the famous Florida Stone Crabs! They have big meaty claws and a rock-hard exteriors to protect their sweet centers. Most of their meat is in their claws and the arm attached to that claw so that is what we will be delivering with shares, the body meat is minimal making it perfect for stocks! There are only a couple boats catching these guys so you won't be finding them at your local grocery store! 

Our partners at Seafood Watch consider these guys a Good Alternative

Crabs will come already cooked (morning of delivery) and cleaned!

Wakame ($8) - 

Packed with calcium, potassium, and vitamin A, wakame brings a sweet, mild flavor to your cooking. Great for re-hydrating and adding to soups, salads, and side-dishes. Simply crumble over salad or a bowl of rice for a delicious nutrient boost!

Nori + Wakame Flake Mix ($4.95) - 

This delicious and mineral-rich seasoning that can be sprinkled on anything for a savory kick. We love it on popcorn, eggs, toast, rice ... the options go on and on. Local, hand-harvested 50% wakame, 50% nori seaweeds make for an amazing salt-free seasoning.

Big Sur Salts

Big Sur Salts is owned and operated by Carlo -  who hand-harvests salt, curates, and blends his salt-mixes in BigSur, CA.

Our special FreshCatch North Fork blend features exclusive blend just for our customers -  a mixture of Pico Blanco finishing salt, California laurel, za'atar thyme, lemon zest, rosemary flowers, and pineapple sage flowers to complement every dish.

North Fork Blend ($24) -

Each jar contains 3.5 oz (99.2 g) of hand harvested Pico Blanco finishing salt, with dried California laurel, za'atar thyme, lemon zest, rosemary flowers, and pineapple sage flowers.
