Join us at Glide - Volunteer and Learn to Fillet for Free!

We are making it a habit to spend our Fridays at @glidesf . We partnered with our fisherman, Joe of the F/V Pioneer and we were able to fillet almost 1,000 lbs of Chilipepper and Bocaccio Rockfish (@seafoodwatch Best Choice) with the help of a group of amazing volunteers!  If you have ever wanted to learn how to fillet fish, then this is a great opportunity to get involved and learn how to break down fish for free!

If you haven't heard of @glidesf you should check them out. They are a community based organization that focuses on acceptance and love. Glide is the only organization in San Francisco that provides three meals a day everyday of the year to our city's poor, homeless, and hungry. They serve around 2,000 meals a day, serving 772,865 meals in 2015.

We are trying to do this every week (weather permitting) and we would love to see some familiar (and new!) faces helping out! It is a great opportunity to give back to the community and learn how to fillet some beautiful fish for free! If you are interested, then please email us at help@tryfreshcatch.com

Week Off - Salmon Opener, Vehicle Maintenance, & First Friday Prep

We are taking this week off to prepare for the reopening of commercial salmon season August 1st as well as our always popular First Friday Pop-up this Friday in Oakland!

Salmon season reopens tomorrow so our boats are getting prepped to go out tonight at midnight for their first run! We will be using this time to schedule pickups with our fishermen for next week as well as service our vehicles so they can make the long haul back and forth to Fort Bragg and Moss Landing with totes filled with over a ton of ice and fish!

Expect fresh local King Salmon for next Wednesday (8/9) if weather continues to be good!

We will also be using this week to get prepped for our LAST First Friday Pop-up in Oakland at our current location with BatchMade. This is a great opportunity to get out and see all of the action if you have not yet had the chance!

FreshCatch's Last First Friday Pop-Up
August 4th
478 25th St Oakland
6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This event is open and free for all with plenty of food, drink and entertainment! Please note that Telegraph will be shut down so public transit is recommended as parking can get tight.

We have loved taking part in this exciting event packed full of inspirational local artists, foodies, and craftsmen; however we feel it is time for us to spread our wings and start hosting our pop-ups at different venues so more people can 'try FreshCatch'!

If you or someone you know has a venue that you think would be perfect for a sustainable seafood themed pop-up please let us know! Think breweries, wine bars, events spaces - anywhere that doesn't serve any food of their own but might like to!

Our Past Event Pop-up Menu Items Have Included:

Oysters (raw & baked)
Fish & Chips
Poke
Ceviche
Uni Tostadas
Uni Shooters
Crab Fries
Seafood Poutine Fries
Fish Tacos
Plus much more!

As always we appreciate the tremendous amount of support our community provides for us - we truly could not do this without each and every one of you!

Did somebody say fries with eyes?! This week, Northern Anchovies!... 5|15|17

Did somebody say fries with eyes?! This week, Northern Anchovies!... 5|15|17

This Wednesday (5/31) we plan on offering beautiful little Northern Anchovies! Northern Anchovies swim in large schools that swirl around close to the surface of the ocean, mouths gaped wide open - hoping to catch some bits of algae, copepods, or decapod larvae which they feed on. They live short lives, usually around four years if they are lucky, and provide protein for a huge variety of species from birds, to salmon, to sharks, to us! Fresh out of the water anchovies smell like cucumbers, and they make a delicious treat grilled, marinated, or fried!

We buy our anchovies live off the boats of Pier 45 early that morning, we throw them in a nice icy slurry, drive them to our kitchen, package them, and then deliver them to you! Your fish will arrive whole, but the great news is that Anchovies are easy fish to clean and you get to learn some cool new techniques doing it if you didn't already know how! You'll be a pro in no time! We will send you a link to a video that demonstrates the process with your recipes when you opt-in! Or you can check out our Northern Anchovy page and learn a little more!

Another week of rough weather... 5|15|17

Another week of rough weather... 5|15|17

Unfortunately even though the sun has been shining all week, the winds have been relentless. Most of our fishermen fish out of sub- 30ft boats - which means that their boats are too small to be out facing the choppy seas in search of our beloved local King Salmon!

As a result this Wednesday we will be offering beautiful McFarland Springs Rainbow Trout! Not only is this Rainbow Trout absolutely delicious - it doesn't hurt our environment or our native species, and it has higher omega-3's than wild salmon!

Single size shares will include around 1.25lbs of filleted Rainbow Trout, and Family shares will include around 2.5lbs!

McFarland Springs Trout are raised in Susanville, Ca and they use awesome and innovative technique to raise beautiful, and extremely sustainable Rainbow Trout that are beloved by many of the top restaurants here in the Bay Area.

Check out this great video to see for yourself!
